This Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) perched on the fence after the lawn was freshly mowed. He was waiting for Kathleen to move out of the way, so he could eat the insects and other invertebrates which had been disturbed. Kathleen photographed this female mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos) and her three ducklings in the Tygart Valley River in Philippi, WV. This songbird seems to have a kind eye. Tree swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) eat berries in addition to insects. This ability to include plants in their diet gives them a larger variety of meal options during colder seasons, when insects are not as plentiful.
